Tea Topuria: The Mint Threshing Floor

Born in 1977 in Sukhumi, Tea Topuria is a prize-winning writer and poet. In 1998, she graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Tbilisi State University and has been working as a journalist in the field of human rights and environmental protection ever since. She currently works as a journalist for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Tbilisi bureau. Topuria has written a collection of prose and poetry The Mint Threshing Floor (2007), the poetry collection Ecocide (2011) and a number of highly acclaimed books of short stories for children, including The Holidays of Paradea (2011), Tales Too Good to Sleep Through (2011) and One Long Day on Another Planet (2014); she has also written the short story collection Two Rooms in Cairo (2016). Topuria is regarded as one of the most talented and notable children’s authors in Georgia. She has been short-listed for many prestigious literary competitions, winning a number of them. In 2014 and 2015, she was nominated to represent Georgia in the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Her most recent book is the short story collection Two Rooms in Cairo (Intelekti Publishing).
