Born 1964 in Spišský Štiavnik, Silvester Lavrík studied theatre direction at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He worked as a director in radio and theatre, served as the artistic director of the Municipal Theatre of Zlín and was the Editor-in-Chief at Rádio Devín. Today, he works as a project manager at the radio stations Rádio Litera and Rádio Klasika. Lavrík has published more than ten plays (found in the 2007 collection Hry [Plays]) and eight books of prose, the most recent of which are Zu (2011), Naivné modlitby [Naïve Prayers] (2013) and Nedeľné šachy s Tisom [Sunday Chess with Tiso] (2016). ‘With Lavrík’s multidimensional personality,’ writes Peter Valček, ‘it is hard to say whether he is more a playwright, a thespian, a novelist, a journalist, an essayist, or a commentator of cultural events.’
